Professional English
Professional English for French speakers starting from zero, in 43 lessons, taught in French.
Description
This course begins at the alphabet. It assumes no English at all — no vocabulary, no grammar, no reading, no listening ability — and it never depends on something it has not taught.
The instruction is in French. The learner is a French speaker who needs English for work, and explaining a new language in that language is how beginners are lost.
What it teaches is the English of ordinary professional situations: introducing yourself, communicating at work, writing simple professional messages, taking part in calls and meetings, and handling everyday professional exchanges.
Each of the first six modules ends with an integrative practice lesson that puts the module's material together rather than testing it piece by piece. The course ends with one capstone lesson drawing on the whole course.
The practical benchmark is functional capability around CEFR B1. No CEFR certification is claimed, issued or implied.
Who it is for
Francophone adults with no prior English knowledge — learners finishing their studies and entering the job market, job seekers, employees, and working professionals.
Assumed starting competence: zero. Absolute beginner.
The problem addressed
English is a condition of professional work that most French-speaking beginners meet only as an obstacle. Courses aimed at them usually assume a level they do not have, or teach in English, which loses the beginner in the first lesson.
This course starts where the learner actually is and states, in French, what each English item means and when it is used.
The outcome
The learner uses English in common professional situations — introducing themselves, writing a simple professional message, taking part in a call or meeting, and handling everyday exchanges at work — at a functional practical level around CEFR B1.
